It’s Thanksgiving time. You can start a micro business as a Thanksgiving helper and help Moms get turkey on the table in time for Thanksgiving. #win-win.
It is a simple way to earn some extra cash. It is an easily overlooked service that many families can benefit from. Here are two ways that you can get started:
So get started on the ideas below and see if you can find one or two families who will hire you.
Talk with your friend’s parents at school. Or talk to them while in your neighborhood. Social gatherings like church or after-school activities are also a good place to market. Create a 1 page flyer and tell them how you can help them this Thanksgiving.
Consider using similar pricing as babysitting in your area. Parents are adjusted to paying $10, $15 or $20 an hour. So set your rates in a similar price point to make the sales easier.
You need to leave time to move from one house to the next house. Make sure to confirm with your parents how you will travel from one house to the next house and don’t book your appointments too close together. One option is to consider two hour chunks so that people will say yes easily and you won’t be stuck in one house for too long.
Getting paid via credit card or electronic methods makes it easier to collect payment. A parent doesn’t have to have cash handy to hire you.
So get your parent’s permission first. But consider online payment methods.
Make sure to dress appropriately as a Thanksgiving helper. Sure you can walk over in flip flops but what does that say about your business? Rather, impress your clients by thinking about what you are going to wear to set the best impression.
Dress appropriately. Business casual is great.
And come ready to roll up your sleeves and dive in. Young women who are supportive and great helpers will stand out in people’s minds. You never know when it might gain you an invite back! Or even an opportunity to interview for a part time job.
So do your best. Ask if there is anything else you can do. Clean up your messes. And be willing to genuinely provide support.
Wishing you the best this holiday season!
