A mom and I were talking recently at a networking event about her daughter who was in attendance. She tried to convince her teen to wear something red – instead of her standard black. She knew that it would help her stand out in the crowd. Instead of the standard black suit that most of us attending wore – including myself – she would be a virtual magnet of color. Professional yet memorable.
When she pointed out her daughter to me, I had a quick giggle. Her daughter didn’t wear red. But she did have on a colorful top – small win for Mom!
Think it doesn’t apply to your daughter? Of course it does!!
Encourage your daughter to wear outfits that are professional and help them stand out at events. It’s a GREAT way to make a positive impression. I watched how the young woman was easy to spot in the crowd when she raised her hand to ask a question and was positioned in the front for a group photo. And I’m sure it helped her gain access to speakers after the formal presentation. People might not remember her name – but everyone would remember her stand-out outfit.
Now don’t take this idea to the extreme! We are not talking 600 colors coming at once! But consider a tasteful splash of color – scarf, shirt, bag – that will add some pop and memory recall for all in attendance.
So don’t hide in the crowd! Challenge your daughter when she’s attending any professional event to show up looking well polished AND wearing some color!
