School is almost out and you are not sure what your daughter is going to do this summer? Challenge her to start a one day business!
I’m betting that she wants to buy something cool (aka expensive) and you want her to get some experience that will help her in the future. There is a good way to do both – have earn the money so she appreciates the item and also packs some skills onto her resume.
Here are a few easy ideas:
- Lemonade or ice pops
- Run kid parties
- Host a car wash bonanza
- Teach adults how to use social media
The ideas are literally endless! Just take an activity that she enjoys doing and have her market herself to friends and family via flyers, posters, email and social media, set a date, and help her get the supplies. She will probably want to spend some time thinking about pricing and how much she could potentially earn.
For example: “If I spend $10 getting the supplies for a car wash and I wash 20 cars during the day at $5 a car, I would earn $100 minus $10 for a total profit of $90”.
That’s a nice chunk towards a new smart phone or Ipad!
And don’t worry about perfection. There are always “learning experiences” just waiting to happen. The more she tests out these ideas when she is young and has you to share her experiences, the better prepared she will be in the future.
